Christmas Break Practice and Jension Invite

Tis the season!

It is the great time of year when anyone that is not connected to swimming cannot understand what the guys go through over these next few weeks. Christmas break practice is the TOUGHEST part about being a swimmer. It is also, however, the time were the swimmers can make the most progress. The main thing is to be at the practices if at all possible. The Christmas schedule has been distributed via email and I will post it here as well. As a reminder, if someone is going to miss a practice, please let the coaches know in advance. On top of that, any activities where injury could occur (i.e. skiing, snowboarding, etc.) is best avoided.

Christmas break practice:
Sat Dec. 22 : 11-1

Mon Dec.24: 9-12
Tues Dec.25: OFF
Wed Dec.26: 11-2
Thur Dec.27: JENISON INVITATIONAL
Fri Dec.28: 11-2
Sat Dec.29: 11-1

Mon Dec.31: 11-2
Tues Jan. 1: OFF
Wed Jan. 2: 11-2
Thur Jan. 3: 11-2
Fri Jan. 4: 11-2
Sat Jan. 5: 9-11

In regards to the Jenison Invitational, it is a great meet! It is a perfect way to break up Christmas break training and swim a fun meet. The entire team will participate.

Enjoy your holiday season. Encourage your swimmers as this is a tough time.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!!

1st Meet, Jension HS!!!

The guys have been working really hard in the pool and we have arrived at their first chance to showcase what they can do!

On Thursday, we will travel to Jension HS to face off against the Wildcats. It should be a very competitive meet for every swimmer on our team. The meet starts at 6:30 and we would like as many fans as possible. With a team of more than 30, we can fill those stands!!

On Friday morning, I will do a write up to post on the blog about the performances. Feel free to post your questions, concerns, and encouragements.

Season Outlook, 2007-2008

After a brief meeting at GRCHS, the excitement is mounting for a great season!

The first day of the season, November 19th, is rapidly approaching. The training will be similar to last year except for the slight revision that we will offer morning practice this year for those that are interested.

The schedule is a good one for us. We will start with a few out of conference meets that will give us challenges in almost every event. Meets with Northview and Holland Christian during the year will provide competition for every person on the team. The West Michigan relays at Zeeland's new facility will be a good chance for the guys to swim fast. Also, put a mark on your calendar on January 17th for the annual showdown with Catholic Central. We have had the upper hand over the last few years thanks to a solid core of swimmers and an excellent training plan devised by Keith Rietsma and implemented Coach Pyper.

The interest level was strong at our initial meeting. It included 11 fresh faces that are considering joining the great tradition of GRCHS Swimming and Diving. If you run into one of them, encourage them to hop on board. As for you returners, it looks like another outstanding run to close out the City League!

A few updates for everyone!

First, you will notice a few things on the side of the blog. Division 3 State cut times have been added.

Next, look below. You will see GRCHS Records as well as our schedule for the upcoming season. If you know the locations of each meet, great! If not, look to the right for a link to find an interactive map. This will give you direction to each of our meets.

What to look for:
  • IMPORTANT!!! There are 2 meets that do not appear on the schedule GRCHS has that will be participating in. West Michigan Relays (Zeeland, Dec. 15th, all day) and the MISCA meet (Eastern Mich. Univ, Feb. 16, all day). For Misca Cut times, click here.
  • We will have Varsity Letter times up shortly.
  • A Season Outlook will appear after the first team meeting.
Looking forward to a great season!

Welcome to the 2007-2008 Grand Rapids Christian Men's Swimming and Diving Blog!

2007-2008 looks to be a great year for the Eagles!

With a core group of returners plus a group of talented freshmen, the team is poised and ready to go. GRCHS now participates in Division 3 and will be able to compete at the state level.

Dual meets with Holland Christian and Northview will be exciting this year. The team will look to wrap another GR City title and close out the City League setting as many records as they can.

Please feel free to add any thoughts, comments, pictures or encouraging words to this blog! An entire Season Outlook is coming soon, stay tuned...
